Cannabinoid Receptors and You
The first time I came across the word cannabinoid I had a little chuckle and thought, “What are those silly stoners going to think up next?” But it turns out cannabinoid is a real word and you can even find it in the dictionary.
What is even cooler is that our bodies contain something called cannabinoid receptors and according to this wiki article it sounds like we actually need cannabis to survive or at least the word “cannabinoid” to totally fucking dominate at Scrabble. Hard to say really – the article has so many three dollar words I had to go read some Dr. Suess just to recalibrate.
As Maryjane becomes mainstream there is a lot of interest in just how beneficial cannabis may actually be. Personally I think a natural product that relaxes you, is calorie free and makes Top Ramen taste amazing needs no medical support but that’s just me. The science of cannabis is real and researchers are learning more and more about this unique plant and its potential benefits every day.
Here is a TIME magazine article that I personally feel should be titled, “These are not the cannabinoid you are looking for” but unfortunately research scientists don’t find that funny. At all. (and heads up TIME magazine will make you sign in to read it) Here is an article from NORML clearly explaining what the endo cannabinoid system is and what it is doing in your body (besides making you use spellcheck every 10 seconds) And here is another article from LiveScience that has several surprising facts about this humble plant of the hour.
Now say it with me 3X fast – cannabinoid cannabinoid cannabinoid
