The slinky lines of a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, the wiggly giggle of Marilyn Monroe’s sweet…smile in “Some Like it Hot”, an old issue of “Wink” magazine – well thumbed no doubt.
What do they all have in common? They are classics. And what makes something a classic? Style, darling. And good taste. Maybe our brownies won’t look sexy in a bathing suit (do NOT try that at home) but they are guaranteed to be a tasty and tasteful delight.
Classic MaryJane Brownies
Nonstick vegetable oil spray
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter – cut into cubes
1/4 cup MendoLicious butter – softened
3/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa – use good quality darling…your worth it. At least 22% fat.
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 large eggs – room temperature
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup green sanding sugar – optional
Preheat the oven to 350. Lightly coat an 8X8 baking dish with spray oil – don’t forget the corners.
Melt unsalted butter over medium heat. When the butter is almost completely melted add the MendoLicous butter and turn off the heat allowing both butters to intermingle and get to know one another. Set aside to cool.
Whisk dry ingredients together in a medium size bowl until well combined. Let there be no strangers among them.
Pour butter mixture slowly into the dry mix while whisking (skills test!). Whisk in the vanilla. Add eggs one at a time and whisk thoroughly. You mix should look smooth and shiny – like perfect hair.
Add flour in small amounts and blend carefully with a rubber spatula – don’t over mix. Scrape batter into prepared pan.
If you like, top brownie batter with green sanding sugar before you bake . This also serves as a good visual clue for your guests ie., “Hey! These brownies are loaded with MaryJane!”.
Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes until set but not dry. Employ the classic toothpick test – clean is “yes” goopy is “no”.
Cool on a wire rack until you just can’t wait anymore then clear your schedule and enjoy!
Consumption Tip – If this is your first time (ha ha) trying a cannabis infused food follow these guidelines. Try half a brownie on an empty stomach and wait one hour to test the effects. Don’t consume alcohol. Just read a book or get some housework done. This will allow you to judge the potency of the batch and the effect it has on you.
